For 36 years of the Atlanta Counseling Center’s 50 year history, Dr. Jim Mallory was the Medical Director. During his tenure, the Atlanta Counseling Center became a premier facility for compassionate, caring and highly professional mental health services where a person’s faith could be part of the solution and not, as was common at the time, considered part of the problem. He spoke nationally and internationally on the integration of Christianity and good mental health care, educating on the medical causes of anxiety and depression. The Center grew from a few clinicians to a premium staff of dozens and influenced the founding of other centers following the same mission. Patients came from surrounding states to seek the safety and competence of The Atlanta Counseling Center. Dr. Mallory was a beacon; he lived his life as a devoted husband and father and was committed to his faith. He was compassionate and cared deeply for the welfare of the patients and staff. He helped steer the Center through some of the most difficult challenges faced by a professional organization of faith and helped bring it to even more prominence as a result. We are deeply saddened by his death and we commemorate his years of service to this organization.
