I’m so glad you are reading this and considering counseling. When you begin the journey of therapy, you are essentially putting pen to paper, maybe for the first time, to express the unfinished story of who you are. And you are taking a very brave step. Coming alongside you on your journey is an honor and a privilege.
I am a lifelong lover of stories. After majoring in English Literature at UGA and then pursuing my degree in counseling at Richmont Graduate University, I came to see that my love of story and my passion for counseling are rooted in the same desire to enter deeply into the human heart. Your story, like all human stories, is probably filled with moments of pain, disappointment, courage, and kindness. I would love to explore those moments and themes with you in order to work toward healing, hope, and wholeness.
I have been counseling in private practice for the past seven years and I absolutely love it. I enjoy working with individual adults, college students, and adolescents. My areas of interest include life transitions, trauma and EMDR, work with shame and self-doubt, grief, identity work, anxiety, and self-esteem. I believe that transformation is possible when we begin the hard work of offering kindness to ourselves where before we have received only shaming and rejection.
My training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) has given me a passion for incorporating this empirically supported therapy into work with clients who feel stuck and imbalanced as a result of moments of harm and trauma in their stories. My experience as an EMDR-trained clinician has filled me with hope and awe at the ability of the human brain to heal and free itself and to make space for new ways of seeing the world and ourselves. I truly believe that healing from the effects of trauma is possible. Those who wish to read more about EMDR and whether it may be helpful for you may do so here.
