Hi there! Welcome to my page. Here’s a little about me…I am a bit of a free spirit and had no clue what I wanted to do at 18, but psychology sounded the most interesting and I went for it. I attended Covenant College on top of Lookout Mountain and loved the experience! My direction in life became clearer as I thrived from that literal mountaintop experience.
After a couple of years obtaining “life experience” in Chattanooga, I left for the big city, aka Atlanta, to Richmont Graduate University. Surrounding myself with supportive friends and colleagues became really important to me, and the fact that I ended up at the Atlanta Counseling Center is not surprising! The collaboration and encouragement towards professional growth is stellar. When you’re in the counseling room with me, I hope you can feel the positive energy of our group.
I’m a very down to earth person, and I love what I do. I enjoy being present with my clients as they talk about whatever they’re dealing with lately. I usually work with eating disorders, body image issues, binge eating, depression, anxiety, trauma, addiction, grief, and coping with life changes. I use a variety of theoretical approaches to help whomever comes into the room reduce whatever stress they’re feeling. Humor also tends to show up. From the cognitive to heart changes, you decide where you want to go. I also offer supervision for future counselors.
When I work with teens, the skills taught in session also go home to parents. I strive creatively involve caregivers in the recovery process. I’m also a huge advocate of you taking care of yourself. This treatment approach is consistent whether we’re working through an eating disorder, depression, or anxiety.
I’m also known for my work with the Body, Beauty, & Bravery Project. This is a program I started in 2007 to help empower women and girls to feel comfortable in their own skin. Looking to the future, BBB will be looking at innovative ways to include boys into the conversation and workshops. Stay connected if you like at www.bodybeautybravery.com.
If you’d like to have a ten-minute conversation about the possibility of working with me, I’d be delighted to talk with you.
